Lesson
West opens 1C and North overcalls 1S. East makes a Negative Double and South must find a way to show his values. Some players would pass. I know this because I see it happen all the time. What happens next is that West bids 2H, which is passed to South, and they talk themselves into passing again. West makes two or three hearts and when it is over, South blissfully announces that they almost bid, as if this statement is the same thing as actually making a bid. They get a very poor result but this is not known until the session is over and the incident forgotten. South should bid something. You can see that facing ten ordinary points from North, South should expect to make a partscore in diamonds or spades. Here is a hint. If you want to find out where you should play a hand, you should bid something. Question: What is South's best bid now?
